The movie Leprechaun (1993) is scary

Leprechaun is one of those classic horror movies that is so bad that it's good. The story is crazy, the actors are over the top, and the special effects are so bad that they are laughable. But somehow, it all comes together to make a film that is fun and entertaining. As the leprechaun, Warwick Davis does a great job, and Jennifer Aniston is surprisingly good in her first movie role. If you like campy horror movies, you should definitely check out Leprechaun. Just don't go into this movie expecting to be scared. You're more likely to laugh than to scream.

The way Warwick Davis played a vengeful leprechaun has become a legend. In the movie, the leprechaun is sure that a family has stolen his gold pot. He goes after them, using all of his smarts and strength. In the meantime, the family is looking for the gold very hard to make the leprechaun happy and keep him from hurting them. Leprechaun is one of the best horror movies of all time because Davis's performance is so scary and memorable.

Davis added humor to what may have been a more serious horror role in the Leprechaun picture.



Plot of the Leprechaun film:

Dan O'Grady returns to North Dakota in 1983 after visiting his hometown in Ireland, where he abducted a leprechaun and stole his pot of gold. After burying the riches, O'Grady finds that the evil leprechaun had followed him home and murdered his wife. Using a four-leaf clover, O'Grady subdues the leprechaun's talents and imprisons him in a container. He had a stroke before he could burn him.

Ten years later, J. D. Redding leases the O'Grady farmhouse with daughter Tory. The farmhouse is being repainted by Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their dimwitted buddy Ozzie Jones. While examining the cellar, Ozzie misidentifies the leprechaun as a child. He frees the leprechaun by removing the old clover. Leprechaun tells Ozzie he's an Irish shoemaker who came to America for his money. After failing to convince others he saw a leprechaun, Ozzie spots a rainbow and follows it in search of a pot of gold. Alex follows Ozzie out of worry for him. A bag of 100 gold coins appears before Ozzie. Ozzie examines the riches and swallows a coin, thinking it would cure his brain. They conceal it in an ancient well.

The leprechaun on the farm deceives J. D. into falling into a trap by impersonating a cat and biting and injuring his hand while posing as a feline. After Tory and the others take him to the hospital, the leprechaun rides a tricycle. When Alex and Ozzie drive to a pawn shop to verify the gold's purity, the leprechaun kills the proprietor, Joe, for stealing his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before fleeing. On his way back to the farmhouse, the leprechaun builds himself a go-kart and is caught for speeding by a police officer. The leprechaun chases the police officer into the forest, where he finally murders the officer. The leprechaun returns to the farm and searches for his riches while sparkling each shoe he encounters. The group returns to the farmhouse after delivering J. D. to the hospital. Nathan is injured by a bear trap placed by a leprechaun as he checks the exterior of a plundered structure. The gang tackles the leprechaun with rocks and clubs in the open air.

At the nursing home, a leprechaun impersonates O'Grady. As Tory runs, the Leprechaun pursues him to an elevator and dumps O'Grady's corpse down. O'Grady informs her before he dies that the only way to kill a leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which grows outside the property. Tory returns to the farmhouse in search of a clover, but is attacked by the (blog) leprechaun. Nathan and Ozzie come to her aid. Leprechaun is severely hurt while attempting to get the last gold coin, which Ozzie consumes. Alex binds Tory's four-leaf clover to gum and throws it into the leprechaun's mouth, melting him before he kills Ozzie. Despite falling into a well, the leprechaun's skeleton exclaims, "I want my gold." Nathan fires both with gasoline after pushing the leprechaun down the well. Tory is reconciled with her father, marries Nathan, and has a child when the cops come. As police investigate the well's wreckage, the Leprechaun promises to reclaim all of his money.

At the nursing home, the leprechaun pretends to be O'Grady. The leprechaun follows Tory to an elevator and throws O'Grady's bloody body down the elevator shaft as Tory runs away. Before he dies, O'Grady tells her that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which grows in a big patch right outside the farm. Tory goes back to the farmhouse to look for a clover, but the leprechaun attacks her, and Nathan and Ozzie save her. The leprechaun gets seriously hurt while trying to get the last gold coin, which Ozzie admits he ate. Alex puts a four-leaf clover that Tory found on a wad of gum and fires it into the leprechaun's mouth. This melts the leprechaun before he can kill Ozzie. Even though the leprechaun's skeleton fell into the well, it gets out and says, "I want my gold." After Nathan pushes the leprechaun back into the well, he lights both objects on fire with gasoline. When the police show up, Tory is reunited with her father. She then marries Nathan and they have a child. While the police search the wreckage of the well, the leprechaun says he won't stop until he finds all of his money.

Prior to the film's debut, Trimark teamed together with the NBA, the NYSE, Domino's Pizza, and Subway to spread word of mouth about the film. Franchisees of both Domino's and Subway believed they were being taken advantage of by the companies when they joined together. Several sequences had to be re-shot as the producers requested that the picture be made gorier to appeal to older viewers.

It is well knowledge that George Lucas was involved in the selection of Warwick Davis for the role of Willow. The explanation behind this, however, is not as well recognized. It would seem that Davis was bound by a contract with Lucas, and Lucas was required to grant his OK before Davis could feature in the film. As a consequence of this, he was recognized at the very end of the movie with a "special thanks" credit. Fans of horror films will find that the movie is much more intriguing when they learn this little-known truth. It's simply another illustration of how much of an impact George Lucas has had on popular culture.

Originally, the leprechaun intended to flee to Ireland. The Irish actor portraying the leprechaun, Warwick Davis, has no work visa. Davis required a visa in three days to shoot the last scene, which is impossible. Vice President Dan Quayle's administration sped up the procedure, and Davis finished shooting on time. For his contributions, Quayle earned a "special thanks" credit.

Warwick Davis was starting to regret making the movie, but many people rented it after Anniston became popular on TV, which led to a long series of sequels. It's said to have been one of Warwick's favorites.
